How often should your office or building be cleaned?
Daily, weekly or every other week? The rules of thumb per type of space — and why a higher frequency is actually cheaper per visit.
The rule of thumb in the trade: frequency follows use. Sanitary rooms and pantries set the pace — with dozens of employees or many visitors you want those covered daily, while the workstations themselves often keep up fine with two or three visits a week. A small office with a handful of workstations manages well with weekly cleaning.
The same principle applies to the communal areas of residential complexes: a busy stairwell with many residents needs a weekly visit, a quiet entrance can do with every other week or monthly. Shops and practices schedule cleaning around opening hours: before opening or after closing, so customers never notice it.
Good to know: more frequent cleaning makes the price per visit lower, not higher. A fixed rhythm fits the cleaning company's route and also prevents dirt building up — clearing a backlog always takes more hours than keeping up. How that frequency feeds into the monthly price is shown in the price index.
Also plan a major clean or deep clean once or twice a year: floor care, deep-cleaning the sanitary areas and everything the regular programme doesn't cover. Pick a moment when the building is empty or quiet anyway — a holiday period or a renovation weekend.
